into play?
A: Water for handwashing and sanitation uses is considered drinking water. Ice is
considered a food and is under FDA jurisdiction. Water used to make ice must be of

drinking water quality and meet the requirements of the SDWA. All ice is provided as a
catered service to aircraft.
Q: Doesn’t potable water need to be provided for handwashing and coffee making?
A: Handwashing, brushing teeth, and drinking water all fall under the definition of
water for human consumption, which is used to define a public water system (PWS).
